  1. Tyrion Lannister to Jon Snow:

“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.” Arncliffe, NSW

  2. From ‘A Storm of Swords’, where Tyrion muses about Joffrey’s wedding. “‘Ravening weasels could not keep me away.’ There was this to be said for weddings over battles, at least; it was less likely that someone would cut off your nose.”
It captures Tyrion’s mordant nature, and it has a semi-colon – what more could you ask?
    Michael Pryor, Alphington, Victoria

  3. Lilyfield NSW

“Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?”
“That is the only time a man can be brave.” Bran (I)—Bran & Ned

Bran talking to Ned Stark in a Game of Thrones, Bran’s first chapter.

  4. My fav quote is from Catelyn after she learns that Winterfell has fallen …
“I want to weep, she thought. I want to be comforted. I’m so tired of being strong. I want to be foolish and frightened for once. Just for a small while, that’s all … A day … An hour.” Franklin ACT

  5. Miranda Drew, Coffs Harbour, NSW
I’ve only read the first book of this series and it was awesome. My favourite quote would have to be- “There is only one god and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: “Not today.” I’ve been wanting to but the box set but don’t have much money to spare 😛 *Fingers Crossed*

  6. I’ve already tweeted, blog’d, shared and liked this post. 🙂
    N.S.W., Randwick

“Rhaegar fought valiantly, Rhaegar fought nobly, Rhaegar fought honourably. And Rhaegar died.” – Jorah Mormont.

It really, really captures the entire essence of the series – that honour gets men killed, and that the only way to survive in the brutal world of Westoros is to cheat, murder, steal and betray, no matter how dirty it might be. You’ll live, but what are you then?

    Thanks for this, Helen!

  8. Hi Helen. What a great giveaway! I have to confess that I haven’t read any of these books yet (I know! I know!) but I would love to, and if I won this then I could! So because I haven’t read them I don’t have a fav quote. I did however post a link on twitter https://twitter.com/RochelleSharpe/status/486119645611438080
    Also on facebook https://www.facebook.com/rochellesharpe.01/posts/4296128577860
and reblogged this. Also I’m from Newcastle NSW.
    Thanks for the chance.

  9. From A Storm of Swords 2: Blood and Gold
On Tyrion after shooting his father,
“The stink that filled the privy gave ample evidence that the oft-repeated jape about his father was just another lie. Lord Tywin Lannister did not, in the end, shit gold.”

His ‘noble’ father never did anything wrong, but caught with his trousers down, whoring like he forbade Tyrion from doing, trying to lie to save his own life, in death he loses his God-like status in his son’s eyes and revealed to be human and flawed. We also realise that Tyrion might be exactly like his father and destined for greatness too.

    Cheers,

Doran Martell to the Sand Snakes:
“I am not blind, nor deaf. I know that you all believe me weak, frightened, feeble. Your father knew me better. Oberyn was ever the viper. Deadly, dangerous, unpredictable. No man dared tread on him. I was the grass. Pleasant, complaisant, sweet-smelling, swaying with every breeze. Who fears to walk upon the grass? But it is the grass that hides the viper from his enemies and shelters him until he strikes. Your father and I worked more closely than you know.”

As Doran Martel reveals himself as a serious player of the Game of Thrones, I was completely surprised to hear that his feeble persona was carefully crafted to hide his true intentions. Much like Littlefinger, Doran plays the long game and Dorne is no longer dormant. This is one of my favourite parts in A Feast For Crows and the Arianne POV.

      • Yeah, Tyrion wasn’t just being a petulant child. Adding the discovery of Tywin’s and Jaime’s lies about Tysha (and what happened to her), as well as the betrayal of the second woman he loved (a true whore), then sprinkling on some whoring hypocrisy over the whole thing, it all makes for a seriously tasty patricidal salad.

  12. I love reading any chapter about John Snow. It doesn’t hurt that the TV series cast a particularly gorgeous actor to play him either.

  13. Coonnington and the ‘other’ dragon taking the roost, who’d a thunk the first dragon to invade wasn’t Dani? Gareth, warriewood

  16. “I am not questioning your honor; I am denying its existence”. Who else but the indefatigable Tyrion, who gets all the best quotes.
